Instead of capturing the man, Randy finds himself transported to another world- a world where magic is in common use. Uncertain where he is, with no obvious means of getting home, he is lucky to be found by a local youth who happens to have a grudge against the same man responsible for bringing Randy here. After becoming friends with his savior, Randy learns what is really at stake. To get home, he has to travel to the far away city of Cobalo, where the Council of Mages might be able to help him find a way to use the mysterious Nexus that could transport him back to earth. These are the same people he must warn about the wizard’s intentions to use the advanced technology of Earth to attempt conquering the free nations of this world. Uncertain which mission represents his greatest priority, Randy, who takes the local name Jolan, and his new friend Asari set off to carry the message of warning.Jolan learns a mysterious talent he’d discovered as a boy is actually the ability to tap the magic of this world, and through the weeks of their travel he becomes able to perform basic tasks in magic, and discovers a few capabilities beyond the norm. In Cobalo he is accepted into the College for Mages, not knowing that the enemy wizard has already learned of his presence on this world. After several attempts are made to kill him, Jolan starts taking actions of his own, some not in line with the policy of the free mages, which eventually results in his setting out with a group of friends to find the answers to his questions and a way to defeat his enemy.
